As you grow older, you will experience illness, loss or limitations. These experiences often raise questions and trigger emotions such as sadness, anger or fear. It helps to talk about these questions and emotions.
Volunteers from the Centre for Meeting in Life Questions (COiL, part of Stronger Social Work) offer a listening ear or draw your life story together with you. Talking about life themes with others is possible in various discussion groups in the city.
Personal conversation
Trained volunteers offer a listening ear and talk to you at home about choices regarding housing or health; things that concern you. Things like illness or loss; feelings of loneliness, meaninglessness or disconnection; limitations, the balance of life or the approaching end of life.
Discussion groups
There are various discussion groups in Nijmegen where, under the guidance of a trained volunteer, you can discuss life's questions using themes.
Life Story or 'Legacy'
Writing down a life story can help you take stock of your life and help you answer the question 'What do I still want?' And when the end is approaching, it can provide comfort or give meaning to write down for yourself or your loved ones who or what has been of significance to you and to leave something tangible behind. Volunteers from the Centre for Meeting Life Questions will help you write down your stories. The booklet is created in a series of conversations, if possible and desired with photos or other illustrations. The costs are €50.00 - excluding the final booklet.
To request
After your registration we will contact you and plan an introductory meeting. The volunteer coordinator will come to your home to clarify your question. Together we will determine what is appropriate for you. Then we will look for a volunteer or a discussion group in Nijmegen.
